Deadline for Yoga, Literature, and Art Camp application is approaching!

Yoga, Literature, and Art Camp at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art will take place June 15th- June 25th, 2015. YLA meets from 10:00a- 4:00p Mondays- Thursdays. Tuition is free with the exception of a $50 fee for materials that shall be submitted at least 1 week prior to the beginning of camp.

Applications are due June 1st and applicants will hear back from us by June 5th.

In the summer of 2013 Dr. Chelsea Jackson founded YLA Camp for Teenage Girls. The camp affords teenage girls an opportunity to engage with both literature and art through an embodied means, connecting content and experience kinetically through the practice of yoga.

Minus a materials fee, participants attend at no cost. This supports our vision of creating access to yoga experiences for ALL. We are proudly housed at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art for the summer of 2015.

Octavia Raheem, the camp co-director, says this of her experience being a part of the first year staff, “ As a student and teacher, the class I taught at the camp has been one of the most transformative practices I have led to date— and I’ve taught a plethora of classes as a public school and yoga teacher. Watching the girls deepen their awareness and understanding of their bodies, literature, and art through yoga simultaneously was incredibly powerful for me.”

Participants’ words from Yoga, Literature, and Art Camp 2013…

“To me, yoga is the spiritual connection between me and my inner Self. It brings peace to my mind, soul, and body.” (10th grader)

“To me, yoga is a practice that forces me to relax and let stress go. It’s like a way to occupy my life with peace. And as a result, I know it will keep me healthy throughout life.” (9th grader)

“Yoga to me is a practice that is more than stretching my physical body, but also mentally. I believe it is a way to get to know myself better and reclaim my inner Self and to know who I am.” (9th grader)

*It is strongly suggested that applicants submit applications soon, as space is limited for this tuition free experience.

  1. Hi Dr. Jackson,

My friends and I (ages 24-30) are interested in trying yoga. Do you have an adult yoga class for beginners?
